Heat Sign Chalmers To Three-Year Contract

Beasley Scores 17, Chalmers 23 In Third Summer League Game

ORLANDO (CBS4) ―

The Miami Heat signed rookie point guard Mario Chalmers to a three-year contract on Wednesday.  The same day he signs with the Heat Chalmers leads the team with 23 points and six assists in a 95-84 loss to the Indiana Pacers in Summer League play.    

Second overall pick Michael Beasley scored 17 points on 5 of 12 shooting in the losing effort.  The Heat's next game is against Oklahoma City at 7pm on Thursday.      

The Heat gave up two future second round picks and $2 million in a draft night trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves.  Chalmers will earn around $2.3 million in the three-year deal although the Heat will have the option in the last year of the contract.

Chalmers has averaged almost 18 points and 7 assists a game in the three Summer League games he has played.

He led the Kansas Jayhawks to the 2008 National Championship.
