MIAMI (CBS4) ―
The Miami Heat will retire Tim Hardaway's jersey on Wednesday night in their season opener against a team that kept Miami's most prolific 3-point shooter out of the NBA Finals.

Miami tips off against the New York Knicks on October 28th, and Hardaway's No.10 jersey will be lifted alongside the jersey of former teammate Alonzo Mourning.

Hardaway is only the second player to receive the honor bestowed by the franchise history. Miami will honor the five time All-Star in a pre-game ceremony before a 7:30 tipoff, with all fans in attendance receiving a commemorative Tim Hardaway poster.

"Just to have a team that honors you in that way, putting your jersey up in the rafters and nobody will ever wear that jersey again, it's just great," Hardaway said.
"It feels great, it shows you how appreciated you were by the organization and it's a true honor."

Hardway played for the Heat from 1995-2000 and helped them to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1997 and 1999. But the Knicks forced Miami into early playoff exits three years in a row - including a seven-game thriller in 2001 when Hardaway was limited because of injuries.

Hardaway was known for his success for shooting the three, and still holds the record in that category with 806. He also has the all-time assists record with 2,867 with Dwyane Wade behind him.
