Morning commuters on the eastbound Dolphin Expressway were treated to a show and lifted tolls Monday. The Miami Heat Dancers and team mascot Burnie greeted motorists at the 17th Avenue Toll Plaza on SR-836. The Heat paid for all tolls between 7-9 a.m. to generate enthusiasm for the start of the NBA season.
The commotion caused by boogying Burnie and the Miami Heat Dancers forced heavier than normal delays for drivers trying to get through the downtown plaza, but the $1.25 savings helped to alleviate frustrations.
Some lucky motorists also picked up ticket vouchers for home games at American Airlines Arena. The home opener for the Miami Heat is October 28th when they take on rivals the New York Knicks.
