Spoil Your Sweetie Without Breaking The Bank
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ―
The color red is the color of love, unless you're "in the red." But being broke doesn't mean you have to break any hearts this Valentine's Day.
"Two dozen roses, 24 roses in a bouquet like this, $14.59," Don Flipse from Field of Flowers told
CBS4 Mobile Journalist Jim Robinson.
Many stores are offering a good price on flowers this year, knowing their business will be in the red if they don't step up this Valentine's Day. There are a couple things you can do to make sure you're getting a great deal on flowers:
-Pick short-stemmed roses; they're cheaper.
-Buy single flowers and create your own bouquet.
-Think about plants; they last longer than flowers.
-Do not get a vase from the florist.
If jewelry is a must for your sweetie, think wholesale. Fountain Jewelers in Davie has a quarter-karat diamond on a 14-karat gold necklace for just $100.
Spending isn't always necessary. Your significant other might enjoy a little creativity, like a homemade card. Take some colored paper, add a special message and save at least $3. Besides, people like Francis Ghitis said if her husband is creative, "I think it would be really cute, that he took the time and made an effort that's out of the ordinary and that he thought about me."
Many restaurants offer a special priced dinner for Valentine couples, but there's nothing like a homemade meal at home. Compare $20-$30 for a good cut of meat, a bottle of wine and a little dessert, to a $100 dinner at a fancy restaurant.
Ghitis said, "That would be amazing, especially if he has to get me out of the kitchen and I'm taking care of everything to make you a romantic dinner, but he'd have to clean up afterwards!"
Remember: spoiling your sweetie doesn't have to be big deal. After all, love doesn't cost a thing.
