Cutting Corners: Halloween On A Budget
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Experts estimate that Halloween spending will be down by 15 percent this year, so CBS4 is giving you savings to keep the spooky season fun for the kids and your wallet. The secret to having a happy Halloween is saving money and parents can get more for their money by putting together costumes at home.
"I own the belt. I own the bracelets," said Jenny Isenman, who has a blog, www.suburbanjungle.net. Isenman spoke to CBS4's Jorge Estevez in full costume in her home in Weston. Isenman proved her point about saving on costumes, as she dressed as a punk rocker from stuff she had at home which included recycled costumes.
"If you spend just a little bit on accessories and pull the basics together from the finds in your house, you can do something you are not going to see anyone else in," said Isenman.
Isenman shares her ideas on her blog, www.suburbanjungle.net, and said people need to start by looking around your house.
"You need to go into your closet and see your own things," said Isenman who often gets her kids excited by putting together pop culture costumes from stuff in their own closets.
"Try and pull the costume together before you show it to your kids. If you start pulling stuff out of the closet, they won't want to wear stuff they already own," advised Isenman who is looking forward to Halloween.
