"Cyber Monday" Cashes In With Shoppers

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― South Florida shoppers who didn't find what they wanted at the malls on "Black Friday" may locate a deal on the internet Monday.

It's called "Cyber Monday," referring to the kick-off of the holiday online shopping season.

Nearly 85 percent of online retailers say they will hold major promotions Cyber Monday.

Internet user Melissa Keefe of Pompano Beach told CBS 4 News Reporter Joan Murray that she'll do half of her holiday shopping online. She's doing it mainly for the convenience. "Like a purchase I made yesterday. I had it shipped free. I don't have to leave my house. It comes right to my door."

Nova Southeastern University Pharmacy student Ramy Gabriel says he's already gotten e-mails about the sales some internet retailers will be holding Cyber Monday. "Websites like e-bay are offering a promotion where you get 30 percent off," Gabriel says. "It's a great way to see sales. It's discreet and I can have my items shipped to my home."

Like many stores on "Black Friday," online retailers are being forced to offer better deals to entice shoppers this year. The rough economy has left many people with an eye on their bank account at all times.
