Children's Trust Heart Gallery - Kendra
Strong, Independent, & Lots Of Fun To Be Around
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
As part of CBS4's series on some very special children hoping to be adopted - Shannon Hori would like you to meet Kendra from the Children's Trust Miami Heart Gallery. 12-year old Kendra was in for a surprise.
She loves fishing, but on a recent visit with CBS4's Shannon Hori she got to drop a line in a way she's not used to.
"You don't have shrimp? Cause that's how I catch my fish," Kendra told CBS4's resident fishing expert Pete McCoy who agreed to show Kendra how to fish in freshwater using worms.
"Eeewww, get that thing away from me, that's disgusting," exclaimed Kendra when Pete pulled a long worm out of a bin. She refused to touch the worms throughout the day, which meant Pete did all the baiting of the hooks.
Kendra says her friends call her Miss Buttercup because she's so sweet, but can also be a little feisty.
On her day at the lake, Hori found Kendra was a lot of fun to be with and laughed easily at herself, and with others, especially if there were worms involved.
"Wooooh, you're freakin' me out," Kendra laughingly screamed at Pete when they were fooling around with the worms.
Kendra says she's doing better in school because now she realizes how important it is to get a good education, but she's like a family to help her with her homework. One day, Kendra says she'd like to be a surgical technician.
"I see a lot of people on TV who do surgery and it looks cool," said Kendra.
"But you couldn't put a worm on a hook" teased Hori.
"Because people aren't wiggly and slimey," replied Kendra.
