Homeowners Look For Help With Foreclosure Concerns

MIAMI (CBS4) ― People in the grips of the foreclosure crisis crippling the housing market in South Florida now have a new place to turn to for help.

Struggling homeowners lined up on Saturday outside the Graham Center Ballroom at Florida International University to get into the "Hope Task Force Workshop." The program is designed to provide people an opportunity to learn how to deal with, and in some cases prevent, foreclosure.

Lenders and counselors met to provide homeowners with on-the-spot loan modifications, counseling and financial plans.

Florida leads the nation in the number of foreclosures with over 40,000 homes in trouble. That's a 92% increase since June 2007. According to realtytrac.com, Miami-Dade County alone has had over 5,000 foreclosures in the last year.

If you couldn't make it to the workshop, don't despair. You can still find help by calling the organization at 1-888-995-HOPE. You can also get information off their website.
