MIAMI (CBS4) ―

Miami-Dade and Broward counties were ranked in the top 10 areas with the highest number of foreclosures in May, though they did dip in the percentage of homes in foreclosures from the previous month, according to RealtyTrac, an Irving-Calif.-based provider of foreclosure data.

In Miami-Dade, the company reported 4,874 foreclosures in May, a decline of 17 percent from April, but an 11 percent rise from a year ago. Roughly one in every 196 homes were in some stage of foreclosure, the company data showed.

In Broward, the total number of foreclosures was 4,449, also down 17 percent from April, but up more than 50 percent from a year ago. That means one in every 176 homes was in foreclosure.

Foreclosure filings rose 7 percent nationally between April and May with some 260,000 homes, or one foreclosure per 483 households.
