Labor Day: What's Open, What's Closed

MIAMI (CBS4) ― If you're expecting something in the mail, don't count on it Monday. Post offices are closed for the legal observance of Labor Day. There will be no mail delivery.

Municipal, county, state and federal offices will also be closed as will state and federal courts, public schools and libraries. Wall St will also observe the holiday along with banks.

If you need to do a little last minute shopping for your Labor Day picnic or backyard barbeque, you'll be in luck because grocery stores and the malls will be open.

Garbage collection will be on its regular pick up schedule.

All Broward County regional parks will be open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and the parks' regular weekend and holiday gate entrance fee of $1.50 per person (children 5 and under free) will be in effect. Fern Forest and Secret Woods nature centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday; and Long Key Natural Area will be open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. each day. Deerfield Island Park will be open on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but will be closed on Monday, September 7. Neighborhood parks will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., but the parks will not be staffed and buildings will be closed.

Miami-Dade and Broward County buses will operate on the Sunday/holiday schedules.

The Southwest Regional (BIC) Landfill at 7101 S.W. 205th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, will be closed.

Broward County's Animal Care and Regulation department's two animal shelters will be closed. An Animal Care officer will be on duty to handle emergencies involving animal attacks or bites, injured animals and police requesting assistance. For these emergencies, call Central Dispatch at (954) 765-5124.
