PLANTATION (CBS4) ― Broward County emergency management officials want residents to know the county is prepared ahead of the start of Hurricane Season 2009.

Friday morning at 10:00 a.m., Emergency Management Director Chuck Lanza and County Administrator Bertha Henry will take part in a news conference at the Emergency Operations Center in Plantation to announce the County's new emergency preparedness programs for the 2009 Hurricane season.

The EOC will also be taking part in a statewide hurricane preparedness exercise for most of the day.

In addition, the 2009 Hurricane Expo and Open House will take place Friday at the Emergency Operations Center from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the expo where there are more than 15 exhibitors on hand to teach people how to be ready and prepared for hurricane season.

County officials will also provide tours of the emergency operations center and the public will be able to get an up close look at emergency response vehicles, including Broward County's mobile command vehicle.

The last time Broward faced a significant storm was Hurricane Wilma in 2005.

The six-month hurricane season starts June 1.
