NASSAU, BAHAMAS (CBS4) ― Tropical Storm Hanna roared along the edge of the Bahamas on Thursday ahead of a possible hurricane hit on the Carolinas, leaving behind at least 61 dead in Haiti. CBS4 Reporter David Sutta, in Nassau, says no major damage or injuries have been reported.

Most shop owners have put up storm shutters, and in the downtown marketplace, about 600 vendors have emptied their shelves over the past three days.

Earlier in the week, Bahamian Charles Bollard said, "You don't want to take a chance, it's better to be prepared then not to be prepared."

"Usually people don't get that worked up over this," asked Sutta.

"No," replied Bollard, "But I noticed after Grand Bahamas got hit with three major hurricanes they took it serious."

Shop owners experienced a dropped in business such as Alexis Ferguson with Sunsplash Resort Wear.

"You've been open for three hours and you've only collected $36," asked Sutta.

"Yeah, so far," replied Ferguson, "there is nobody walking."

Only one cruise ship pulled into Nassau's port on Wednesday, a day ahead of schedule.

"We were supposed to be at sea today and Nassau tomorrow but the captain let us know that we would be here because we won't be able to get into Nassau because of the storms," said Stella Grici from Toronto.

The ship's captain planned to leave three hours early to clear the storm, but some tourists have decided to stay and ride it out.
