Tropical Depression #1 Continues Out To Sea

MIAMI (CBS4) ― A tropical depression that formed off the mid-Atlantic coast on Thursday continues to head for colder waters and is not expected to threaten land. Forecasters say they expect the storm to weaken or dissipate by Saturday.

At 11 a.m., the depression is located near latitude 39.6 North, longitude 64.0 West or about 345 south of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph, with some higher gusts. The storm is moving east-northeast near 18 miles per hour. The storm should continue to dissipate as it moves over colder waters.

The 2009 Atlantic hurricane season officially begins Monday.
