Tropical Depression Ana dissipated Monday at 5 p.m. and is now considered a weather system.
National Hurricane Center
Tropical Depression Ana has dissipated and it's now just a tropical wave.
Residents of Puerto Rico can still expect up to see four inches of rain as the weather system passes to the south of the island. But its weakening trend continued as the National Hurricane Center announced the storm had dissipated. Forecasters said there was little chance it would redevelop.
At 5 p.m., the poorly defined center of Ana was near latitude 17.5 north, longitude 68.0 west, or about 140 miles southwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Ana is moving toward the west-northwest near 24 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 miles per hour. On its present track, the weather system will cross the coast of the Dominican Republic on Monday.
All Tropical Storm Watches were canceled for the U.S. Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Ana is expected to produce rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches over the Leeward Islands including the U.S. and British Virgin Islands.
