MIAMI (CBS4) ― It could be a wet start to the weekend and possibly a stormy Saturday due to a tropical wave stretching from the Southeastern Bahamas to Hispaniola that moved across South Florida Friday.

This area of low pressure has a low potential of development, according to CBS4 weathercaster Lissette Gonzalez. The system is expected to cause an increase in the moisture and chance for rain especially Friday night into Saturday.

The rain chance remains high on Saturday. Showers and thunderstorms are likely and some could produce heavy rainfall. It'll be breezy with a southeast wind between 17 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Sunday, the chance of rain diminishes. There's a 30-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2:00 p.m. with highs near 91. Breezy with an east wind between 11 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Forecasters are also keeping a close eye on a strong tropical disturbance about 200 miles south-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. Showers and thunderstorms are gradually becoming better organized and later Friday or Saturday, the system could be named Tropical Depression #3.

Conditions appear favorable for development and strengthening and the National Hurricane Center says it has a high potential of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.

The third wave consists of the remnants of Tropical Depression #2. Shower and thunderstorm activity is decreasing, but it still has the medium potential of slowly regenerating into a tropical cyclone over the next couple of days.
