While police continue the investigation into Taylor's murder, the South Florida community prepares for a final farewell. Preparations are underway for several memorials across South Florida.
A public funeral service for slain Washington Redskins player Sean Taylor will be held Monday.
Thousands of people are expected to attend the service at Florida International University's Pharmed Arena starting at 11:00 a.m.
Taylor's family wanted the service to be held at the University of Miami, where Taylor was a former All-American safety, but the BankUnited Center on the Coral Gables campus was unavailable due to basketball games and preparation for a Republican presidential debate.
The public is scheduled to view the body at Second Baptist Church in 11111 Pinkston Dr. in Richmond Heights , from 5 to about 6:30pm, Sunday. Rehearsals took place at the church with the band.
"We been doing is talking to the family, trying to get as much as the family wishes possible," said music director of the church, Allen Paul, told CBS4's Cristina Puig. "The whole community wants to be involved so we been working with sound, with programming, with soloists.
There will be a candlelight vigil 6 p.m. Sunday outside University of Miami's BankUnited Ctr.
The owner of the Washington Redskins, Daniel Snyder, is arranging for the entire Redskins organization to attend the Monday service, one day after they host the Buffalo Bills.
In addition, Taylor will be honored throughout the NFL this weekend. All players in the NFL will wear a number-21 decal on their helmets during this weekend's games, in memory of Taylor.
Redskins players will wear the decal for the remainder of the season.
The Redskins practiced Wednesday for the first time since Taylor's death. Taylor's father, Florida City Police Chief Pedro Taylor, flew to Washington and addressed the team for 10 minutes telling them to win the next five games and make it to the playoffs. He was accompanied by his son's girlfriend, Jackie Garcia, and other family members, according to Richard Sharpstein, the family's attorney and spokesman.
Taylor was shot by an intruder inside his Palmetto Bay home on Monday. He was shot once in the upper leg and died early Tuesday after losing a tremendous amount of blood.
