If you're looking to start a new career in 2009, you may want to brush up on your math skills.
A new study by job site CareerCast.com evaluated more than 200 professions to find the best and worst jobs. In considering each profession, income, employment outlook physical demands, environment and stress were all accounted for.
Data for the study, taken from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau along with various trade studies, was compiled by Les Krantz, author of "Jobs Rated Almanac."
He found that careers involving math fared the best based for working environment, growth potential and pay. For example, the median annual income for a mathematician came in at around $94 thousand. Other jobs that topped the list included actuary, statistician, software engineer and computer systems analyst.

On the opposite side of the scale, lumberjacks or loggers have the worst jobs. Not only is the work dangerous, there is also a low employment outlook and low annual pay around $30 thousand. Other jobs on the bottom of the list include taxi driver, dairy farmer, nurse, firefighter and garbage collector.
