"How Not To Look Old" Author Features S. Fl.Salons

CORAL GABLES (CBS4) ― Author Charla Krupps new book "How Not To Look Old" has been dubbed the beauty and style bible. The New York Times bestselling author was in South Florida recently and sat down with CBS4 fashionista Lisa Petrillo to spill her youthful secrets. She also unveiled the South Florida beauty hot spots where clients can get gorgeous, close to home.

Do you wear an eyeglass chain around your neck? Do you have ruby red lips or wear micro minis with high heels? These are just a few things veteran beauty and style expert Charla Krupps say are more old-lady- like.

Her book "How Not To Look Old" is described as the ultimate to do list for women over 35 who want to look young and hip and she's not talking about plastic surgery.

"My favorite quote in the book is from Isaac Mizrahi. He said if you want to look old get a face lift, get your lips done, because it look so obvious. We can go to a dermatologist to get Botox and lasers and fillers they are not permanent."

Krupps recently signed copies of her book at Merrick Park in Coral Gables and she also gave Lisa Petrillo a few ageless no-no's, such as no red lips, go glowy and lighter.

"I tell women if there's one thing you get from my book, switch your lipstick. Don't wear red or burgundy they are very aging and make lips look thin," said Krupps.

If you wear a mini, then don't wear high heels. Krupps explained, "If you wear something short with high heels, you look like a hooker. I do think the ideal length is where the calves meet the top of the knee, right where the leg closes, just a halff inch off makes a difference."

For eyes, Krupps says, go big and leave the eyeglass leash at home.

"Eyewear is fashion statement; treat it like a necklace or earrings."

At stylish events, Krupps recommends leaving the frumpy shoes at home. "Women in Miami don't give up on sexy high heels. It makes everything you're wearing look better."

For hair color, go light around the face and whatever the shade, keep it flowing. "The sign of an old lady is a helmet head of hair that doesn't move."

From South Florida to Seattle, Charla Krupps book names the beauty spots across the U.S.

"It's been amazing, I have had calls from all over the world," said Scott Alan. Millie Lopez agrees. "I had 7 new people last week from the book," said Lopez.
