New Treatment For Fighting Hair Frizz

Hawaiian Hair Straightening Method Uses Keratin

Process Lasts About Three Months

Cost About $275
MIAMI (CBS4) ― South Florida's high humidity simply isn't good for our hair. Higher humidity adds frizz for many of us and makes it tough to get salon straight hair.

Now there is a new hair treatment that could save you time and money in the long run.

"My hair is thick, and not easy to get straight," said Stacy Scholnick. As a mother of four children, it's tough to find the time to get her hair just right.

Tired of spending countless hours a week drying her hair and paying money every week for professional "blow outs," Stacy decided to try a new way to tame her frizz.

It's the Hawaiian hair straightening method, different from its Brazilian counterpart because it does not use formaldehyde to straighten the hair. A chemical some claim is harmful to hair and your health.

Instead the Hawaiian treatment relies on a protein already found in hair. It's called Keratin and it can be used to smooth out damaged hair.

"So what it's actually doing is getting into the hair shaft and really repairing the hair, getting rid of frizz, making the hair more manageable," said Kevin Gatto with the Verde Salon.

The technique involves applying the keratin mixture to the hair. The solution is then carefully dried into each strand, while it is blown out stick straight.

"It's never been this straight. It's always curly and course and really thick," said Stacy.

So who's the perfect candidate for this technique? Hair with a natural wave, even frizz is perfect.

The process lasts about three months and will set you back about $275.

"I think it will save me about 20-25 minutes a day and it means a lot having four small children. I need that time," Stacy said.

It's time she can spend reflecting on other things besides her frizz.
