Finding The Perfect Bathing Suit For Your Body

MIAMI (CBS4) ― It's one of the most dreaded times of the year; swimsuit season is here and that's terrifying news for some women. But no matter what your "body type" is, there is a right suit that can improve your look and get you swimsuit success.

Fashion models in swimsuits always look great but when you live in the real world, it's not always a day at the beach. But swimsuit expert Lisa Vogel says there is a swimsuit out there for everyone.

Vogel is Co-President of Raj Manufacturing and she's responsible for some of the hottest swimsuits on the market, such as Hurley, St. John, Guess, Tommy Hilfiger and her line, Luxe by Lisa Vogel.

"A lot of times women don't buy the right size for their body," said Vogel.

So finding the right size is the key to finding the right bathing suit.

"For women that need breast support, tank straps are great," explained Vogel.

Women with large chests should also try thick halter tops which provide good support and flatter narrow shoulders. Stick to solid colors which down-play a larger chest while diagonal stripes along the chest make the body appear narrower. V-neck There's also the V-neck tankini which provides coverage and still allows some cleavage to show.

Women with a small bust should try to add curves and subtle cleavage by using a bikini top with triangle-shaped cups and a tie-front. These features will add shape and the appearance of size to your small bust.

For pear-shaped women, tankini's, skirt-suits and one piece suits hide bothersome bulges and provide a looser fit around the mid-section. Dark colors and bold prints make the body appear slimmer and suits with details on the chest draw the eye upward and away from the problem area.

For women with a boyish figure, try padded tops for a fuller bust, cut-out one pieces create curves and a bandeau with stripes add width to an otherwise narrow figure.

Plus size women will want to look for swimsuits in darker colors in a plus size, as these colors will have an overall minimizing effect. Deep reds and blues will also have the same effect and are a bit more appropriate for summer fun. To accentuate curves, look for a fitted swimsuit with a defined waist and a high percentage of Lycra/spandex. A high-cut leg will also slim your legs and hips.

So whether you're trying to push them up, hold them in, get longer looking legs or a flatter tummy .. Picking the right size is key; and the best swimwear secret of all, be confident with what you have.
