FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― A man confined to a wheelchair since a childhood accident realized a dream Saturday, graduating from college against tremendous odds. What made his accomplishment evem more impressive is that it came as he devoted his life to helping others through his own charity.

At the age of 10, Ahmad Jones of South Miami was struck by a truck while riding his bike. For over a decade, he has been confined to a bed or wheelchair.  He is a quadriplegic whose dreams have expressed themselves in giving others a second chance.

He is known as AJ by his family and friends, a young man in his twenties who has taught others to make each and every day important. Much of his education has been home-schooled, but he dreamed of a college degree.

Saturday, AJ graduated from college, having attended the University of Phoenix online for the past four years, He joined 650 other students at their commencement ceremony at the Broward Convention Center in Ft. Lauderdale.

"I'm on cloud 9," he said after being awarded his diploma. "This is the biggest accomplishment since my accident, and now you know I'm on cloud 9."

AJ has gained friendships with celebrities, professional athletes, key dignitaries and others. As a community activist, he's devoted endless energy and resources to help others, along with CBS4Neighbors4Neighbors.

He created his own program to advance the well-being of others in what's called "Follow Our Dreams".
