Hollywood Woman Turns Trash To Treasure
HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) ―
As the old saying goes "One man's trash is another man's treasure," but for mosaic artist Robyn Crosfield it's more like "one man's broken trash can be turned into treasure."
Crosfield said her mosaicĀ art had a very humble beginning out on her back patio.
"Some I put some broken china on, some I put shells on," said Crosfield describing some of her creations, "I covered the entire pot and grouted it and that's how it all started"
From there it, Crosfield said her art and popularity grew at an astonishing rate.
"I have clients all the time that bring me their objects that someone has broke," said Crosfield, "they bring me the pieces and ask me if there is anything we can do with this."
Depending on the amount of pieces, and what they want to created, Crosfield can always add to the piece.
Her Hollywood gallery more than 100 individual handmade, one of a kind, signed pieces which run anywhere from $3.95 to more than $3-thousand for custom-made furniture.
"Some people freak out when they see some of the things that we break," said Crosfield. "When you've got someone's heirloom in your hands,,,,,,and it doesn't quite break the way you wish it would, you try to find another way to utilize it in the piece.
Crosfield said just about anything to everything can be used in creating mosaics from floor gout to mastic for mirrors.
She even teaches classes for aspiring mosaic artists.
"Anybody can make a great piece," said Crosfield, "we can show you how."
A five hour workshop runs about a hundred dollars.
