A 'New Face' Helps Women Skip The Scalpels

Age-Defying Beauty Secrets: Look and Feel Younger Every Day

MIAMI (CBS4) ― It's a secret that some Hollywood stars don't want to share, how they maintain a youthful look without going under the knife.

When you look at Madonna, Demi Moore or Sharon Stone, you know they are getting older, but they seem to be aging slower than the rest of us.  That's because they are part of what plastic surgeons call the 'new face'.

Dr. Julio Gallo, medical director of the Miami Institute for Age Management, told CBS4 Entertainment Reporter Lisa Petrillo it all begins by looking at your 'young' face.

"If you take pictures of yourself, this is a good experiment," said Dr. Gallo. "Take pictures from you as a baby, the teenage years, the 20s, 30s, 40s, what you'll see as time goes by, you'll see volume loss, sinking in of the cheeks, eyes and temples."

Dr. Gallo says with products like botox, to free lines, and fillers like restalyne, a natural cosmetic dermal filler, many women are battling the aging process without having a face lift.

"A lot of time what we need to do is just do the volume," said Dr. Gallo, "especially women in their early 40s not ready yet to have a facelift or a full facelift. They can get it if you replace volume, especially in the cheek area and jowls, these products are great and you can use them all over the face."

One of Dr. Gallo's patients is Heather Davis, a 46-year old model who has been receiving botox injections for years. She recently started on restalyne injections to fill out her cheeks and smile lines.

In addition to the cosmetic injections, Dr. Gallo says specialized lasers can help by removing scarring and fine lines and there's a light based treatment for age spots.

Dr. Gallo says women considering such procedures should start off slow.

"You can get too puffy," he continued, "like everything, moderation is key, too much of anything is not a good thing necessarily."

Twenty minutes after her injections, Davis said she was a little numb but thrilled with the results.

"The first couple of days I'll be swollen, but by the weekend I'll be perfect," she said.

Dr. Gallo explains the effect from the procedure will last from four to six months.

While the 'new face' doesn't give women their old face back, those who have done it say they do feel like a new person.
