Massive Makeover Complete On Historic Tides Hotel
MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) ―
After a 14 month renovation, the historic Tides Hotel on Ocean Drive in South Beach is back with an edgy new design.
The Tides Hotel's General Manager Shan Kanagasingham said thanks to designer Kelly Wearstler, guests can now enjoy a cozy atmosphere while still feeling chic and sophisticated.
"She wanted to bring in the Deco aspects to the design, but also have it be glamorous and have it be very much beachside, and with a color, she brought in the colors of sand and sea with the muted warm of the golds and the hues of the tan and truly wanted to create outside inside," said Kanagasingham
In the Tides lobby, traces of the outdoors can be found in the handcrafted rope chairs and real trees while the walls of the coral bar are hand painted with fish set in gold leaf.
"Although this is a hotel, it is a small little jewel in size, its 45 suites, and again we wanted to create intimate spaces that made you feel like you were in someone's home as opposed to a traditional hotel with traditional hotel looking type items" said Kanagasingham.
The all suite hotel makes guests feel like they are in their own private beach house.
"All our 45 suites have direct ocean views which I think is truly one of our greatest selling features because most hotels don't have the ability to say they are all direct ocean," said Kanagasingham.
The 'outdoorsy' feel of the hotel extends to its restaurant La Mare which is decorated with bleached driftwood and tortoise shells to give it a 'beachy' feel. Animal lovers concerned about the shells lining the walls have nothing to worry about.
"They are faux," said Kanagasingham, "they are faux resin tortoise shells."
To pay homage to the hotel's historic past and the guests who have enjoyed their time staying there the restaurant's breakfast and lunch menus are now priced at $19.36 to commemorate the Tides' opening in 1936.
"The '1936' was to get the community to come back and experience 3 courses for breakfast or 3 courses for lunch at a price that is very, very attractive but yet a menu that is truly stunning and very unlike what the Tides has done in the past," said Kanagasingham.
The three course lunch menu includes freshly made gazpacho for an appetizer, organic chicken pallard for the entrée and a selection of homemade ice creams and sorbets for desserts.
The '19.36' menu for breakfast and lunch will extend through September 30th.
