DUI Charges Filed Against Prominent S. Fla. Lawyer
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
A well-known South Florida lawyer has been released on bond, after he was arrested on drunk driving charges in Fort Lauderdale.
According to a Broward Sheriff's Office incident report, Al Milian crashed his car along SE 6th Street and U.S.1 early Friday. He hit a sign, and damaged some lawn sprinklers and landscaping outside of a small apartment building. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The building's owner told CBS4 News partner the Miami Herald that the damage was estimated to be about $4,000.
According to police, Milian's eyes were bloodshot, his breath smelled like alcohol and he refused to take a Breathalyzer test. In addition, he didn't do well on roadside exercises, the report said.
Milian was a Broward County prosecutor for more than a decade before leaving in 2000 to became a staff attorney for the Miami-Dade Police Benevolent Association. He ran for Miami-Dade State Attorney, twice, against Katherine Fernandez Rundle and was defeated in 2000 and 2004. He currently has his own private practice in Coral Gables.
Milian was released on $1,500 bond.
