A Slew Of Stolen Goods Displayed For Lost Owners

Miami Beach Police Hdqts Displays Stolen Property So Owners May Claim

MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) ―

If you live in Miami-Dade area, and had something taken from your home or car, you may be able to get it back on Friday. An estimated $100,000 in stolen property will be returned to their rightful owners if proof can be provided.

Lindsay Asconape arrived at the Miami Beach Police Department hopeful to recover some items that were stolen from her west Miami-Dade home several weeks ago.

"I'm hoping to get my laptop because it has our daughter's pictures on it that we didn't back up and three years of baby pictures," said Asconape.

Asconape is not the only hopeful; there are a dozen of victims with similar stories.

"I had my grandmother's pictures, my grandfather's ring, my daughter was baptized in Italy, and my mother-in-law gave me Italian gold jewelry that I never worn and kept it in a drawer and unfortunately it's gone," said Tina Caizzo.

"We have ancestral pieces that people actually thought they would never get again," explained Deborah Doty, spokesperson for the Miami Beach police.

Other items displayed were: electronic, designer purses and musical instruments.

Miami Beach police recovered the stolen goods after a police officer pulled aside Antonio Rodriguez in mid-April for a traffic violation. The minor infraction resulted in what police said was Rodriguez' confession to at a slew of burglaries throughout Miami Dade, at least 33 of them. Rodriguez gave police specific details about every burglary.

"He agreed to drive around, we did this for a series of four or five days," said police. "He knew every location. He could explain how he broke in. It's amazing that someone in a two-year time span could remember all the locations and how he broke in."

At their police headquarters, 1100 Washington Ave., on Friday, Miami Beach officers displayed all the recovered goods stolen from the cities of Miami, Surfside, Miami Beach, West Miami and the Town of Bay Harbor Islands.
