Broward Sheriff's Office
Crime Stoppers of Broward County is offing a $1,000 reward for information leading to the capture of a bearded bandit who knocked over an elderly man while trying to rip off a wholesale club in Parkland.
It happened at the BJ's Wholesale Club on Hillsboro Blvd and US 441 on October 30. The victim is 82-year-old Bernie Sobol. Surveillance video shows the crook walking into the store and immediately going to the computer section. The same man goes back to where Sobol is to ask him for assistance, but Sobol tells him he can't leave his post.
The man goes back in, and moments later, he is recorded running right past Sobol, carrying two computers and running out the door.
What he did not expect is that Sobol would run after him.
"Mr. Sobol runs after him," explains BSO Spokesperson Dani Moschella. "What we don't see on video is, outside, he knocks Mr. Sobol to the ground. Mr. Sobol, who's 82 years old, injuries his rib and scratches his arm."
"Oh my God! I can't believe he did that," says shopper Kerry Gillanders. "I think it's a pretty despicable person. He's such a nice man, always talking to my kids. That's a horrible thing for that to happen."
The robber is still on the loose. If you have any information, call Broward
Crimestoppers at 954-493-TIPS. You may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
