Bank Robber Fails To Escape Cameras During Heist

OAKLAND PARK (CBS4) ― The Broward Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help in finding a bold bank robber whose crime was caught on surveillance video.

According to BSO, the well-dressed robber in a long-sleeve button down shirt and khaki pants, calmly walked into the American National Bank, located at 4301 N. Federal Highway in Oakland Park shortly after 10:00 a.m. Monday.

The suspect handed a teller a note that demanded money from the cash drawer and threatened to hurt her unless she complied. After she gave him the cash, he walked out of the bank and disappeared.

At first it was believed he got away on foot, but once Broward Sheriff's Office robbery detectives canvassed the area, they realized the suspect had driven to the scene and they had they whole thing on tape.

BSO investigators say the suspect parked his car in the rear parking lot of a business across the street from the bank. Not only was the robbery caught on surveillance video, so was his arrival and getaway.

The robber is described as a white male, about 40-years-old, of slim build, approximately 5'8" tall, weighs about 140 lbs., has blond hair, wears glasses, and was last seen wearing a long-sleeve, button down, light blue shirt and khaki pants.

His getaway vehicle is a dark colored, 4-door Toyota Tundra pick-up truck. It has light window tints on front and darker tints on the back, running boards and aluminum MAG style wheels.

Anyone with information is asked to contact BSO Robbery Detective Brian Walker at 954-321-4270, or Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS or www.browardcrimestoppers.org. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.
