Former Broward Sheriff's deputy Jonathan Bleiweiss entered pleas of not guilty on 5 of the 8 cases that allege he sexually battered illegal immigrant men. One more case is left to be arraigned. Bleiweiss had previously pled not guilty on two other cases.
Bleweiss is accused of sexually battering several illegal immigrant men he pulled over in traffic stops will face more charges including sexual battery, false imprisonment and stalking. Bleiweiss, 29, was arrested last month and now faces 58 charges against him.
Bleiweiss is a seven-year veteran of the agency and patrolled the Oakland Park area. Investigators said he targeted illegal immigrant men in their late teens and 20's, often pulling them over for traffic stops or stopping them on the street. He would then allegedly pat them down, often groping them; in some cases his actions reportedly led to more involved sex acts. He victimized at least eight people, prosecutors say.
In one incident that occurred in April, a victim told investigators that Bleiweiss placed him against his patrol car and while patting him down, groped him inside his underwear. The man reportedly said Bleiweiss also demanded his cell phone number and then continuously called and texted him. BSO said the incidents came to light when an employer of one of the victims brought information to the authorities.
Bleiweiss returns to court on January 7, 2010.
