Man Arrives To Burning Home With Family Inside
The Cause Of The Fire Is Under Investigation
The Home Didn't Have Smoke Detectors
LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBS4) ―
A man visiting a Lauderdale Lakes home Thursday found a dangerous surprise instead, a fire burning and his son inside.
"Fire blew up, I don't know, it's like we tried to put it out, but it wasn't working. Fire just blew up, like it was an explosion and type of stuff," Bobby Louvis said.
Louvis noticed the fire burning from outside, he knew there were six people inside, including his 10 month old child. That's when he made the decision to run into the burning building, to make sure everyone got out alive.
What he did not count on was the intense fire he ran into on the way.
"I had to duck down like they was shooting after me and stuff man, and the fire was so big you know what I'm saying. It was big, it was humongous," Louvis explained.
Louvis' brother was one of the people in there.
"There was just smoke coming out the house," Louvis' brother said.
Fortunately, he and everyone else got out okay. But the firefighters warn, the outcome here could have been tragic.
"There were no smoke alarms inside the house. Fortunately for them, they are lucky today because had this fire occurred in the middle of the night we could have been looking at possibly eight fire fatalities," Mike Jachles with the Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue said.
