New Sketch Of Boca Mall Murder Suspect
Boca Raton Police have released surveillance video of a man who investigators believe may be a suspect in the murder of a woman and her daughter at Boca Raton's Town Center Mall in December. The video was captured at another area mall just days ago, raising alarm that a possible killer is traveling to malls across South Florida.
The announcement came from Boca Raton Police Thursday, and they say the video of the man was actually caught at Aventura Mall.
May 5th, Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers received a tip from an anonymous caller who was at the Aventura Mall and saw a suspicious man, matching the sketch previously released by Crime Stoppers in the robbery last year at the Town Center Mall. The tipster said she was at the mall with her child early in the afternoon of April 30th and was leaving the first floor west entrance near Nordstrom. She told Crimestoppers she thought she had been followed by a suspicious man.
Detectives of the Boca Raton Police Services Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Task Force were able to obtain surveillance video from Aventura mall showing the man who attracted the woman's attention, and the resemblance to an earlier police sketch of the Town Center Mall suspect was striking.
"The male in the video does look like the suspect, but we've had a lot of reports of people that look like the suspect," said Sandra Boonenberg, with the Boca Raton Police Department.
The man in the video has a floppy hat and a pony tail, just like the sketch of the killer that police released. Nonetheless, they say the man they are looking for was possibly involved in at least two other incidents at the mall. This includes the murder of Randi Gorenberg, who was killed after shopping at the Town Center mall last year.
Detectives are searching for the man in the video, and would like to speak with the anonymous caller.
The victims, Nancy Bochicchio and her daughter Joey, spent their last moments of life shopping at the high end mall on December 12th. After that, police believe they were held up in their own car by the unknown man before they were murdered. To this day the identity of the killer remains a mystery to police, but they are hoping this crucial piece of evidence might help them solve the crime.
Nancy Bochicchio, 47, and 7-year-old Joey Bochicchio-Hauser were robbed, bound and then shot to death, and their bodies were found in their SUV in the parking lot of the Town Center Mall during the height of the holiday shopping season.
Two other pieces of video were released in the past, showing the mother and daughter before their demise. The first new video shows the mother and daughter walking through the mall--a video recorded from a vantage point inside a Sony store.
The second video shows Nancy Bochicchio's SUV approaching and departing from a bank ATM. At the outset of the investigation, detectives were quickly able to identify witnesses in the area of the ATM and have already obtained statements. Police have not said if the killer could have been in the car with them as they were in the ATM. Police had released these two previous videos hoping it will look familiar to someone who can help solve the case.
The Boca Raton Police Department and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office created a task force to work on these cases in January. If you have any information for investigators please call
Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
The city has offered a $350,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the killer.
