Broward Public Defender Candidate Arrested

TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) ― A Fort Lauderdale lawyer and candidate to head the Broward County public defender's office is facing drug charges after Tallahassee airport security said they found cocaine in his jacket.

Transportation Security Administration officials stopped Gary S. Ostrow at the Tallahassee airport Friday May 2. They said they found a small vial of cocaine in his jacket pocket during a security X-ray screening.

Records show the 52-year-old Republican filed papers that day to run for Broward County public defender.

Ostrow has represented high profile clients such as former Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams. He could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
