Lotsy Dotsy Brings Lots of Smiles To Kids

HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) ― At nine-years old, C.J. George is already a writer, a poet and a cancer patient. He has a rare and aggressive cancer known as acute lymphoblastic lymphoma. It began in his lymph nodes. After several tests that came back negative, a scheduled M.R.I. showed tumors all over his body.

Dawn George told CBS4's Jim Robinson, "It had spread through his abdomen, kidneys, diaphragm area, and wrapped around his spine and pelvis."

Her son was scared and didn't know what to expect. C.J. said, "It's sad in some ways because you have to get poked sometimes, then it's happy in other ways because there's Lotsy."

Lotsy Dotsy is a full time clown at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. She sees many kids who are sick with a number of diseases.

She not only brings them comfort, but proves that laughter is the best medicine. She says, "I love my job with a passion."

This passion helps Dawn George take care of adult business while her son sports a smile.

"She's really nice, she tells me jokes, and makes me happy when I'm not having the greatest days," said C.J.

Lotsy says her work is even more appreciated during the holidays, when families may not be able to have a normal Christmas.

"You walk into their room, and you realize, it's not about you," she said.

Lotsy is really Linda Herbert, the Respiratory Therapist at the hospital. To C.J. and many of the kids at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, she's a friend.
