The grandmother of a missing 2-year-old Central Florida girl says her daughter knows who has the toddler.
Speaking on NBC's "Today" Show on Monday, Cindy Anthony says her daughter Casey, who was arrested last week and charged with child neglect and criminal obstruction for lying to detectives, should be released from jail so she can help with the investigation.
Casey Anthony, 29, reported her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony missing last week. The little girl's grandmother says Caylee was last seen June 9th. Casey Anthony told detectives that's the day she dropped off her daughter at a babysitter's apartment but hadn't seen her since. The charging affidavit says the mother didn't call authorities
immediately because she was conducting her own investigation. The affidavit also stated, however, that the apartment she allegedly dropped the girl off at hadn't been occupied in months and Anthony gave detectives a bogus
employer, manager's name and work telephone number.
On Friday, authorities used cadaver-sniffing dogs to search in the back yard of a home belonging to Casey Anthony's parents, Caylee's grandparents.
"Just because we're here with cadaver dogs doesn't mean we're giving up, that Caylee's not alive," said Sheriff's Sgt. John Allen Allen, head of the missing persons and child abuse unit. "We're running the investigation in several different directions."
Casey Anthony's lawyer told the "Today" Show that "there's an explanation for all of this."
Sheriff's detectives say they have few new leads. Authorities are looking into the family's claims that Casey Anthony received a mysterious call from her daughter last Tuesday.
