MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) ― South Florida played host to a night of high fashion on South Beach as designer Karl Lagerfeld launched his 2009 Cruise Collection poolside at the Raleigh Hotel.

Chanel Cruise Collections have sailed on a yacht on the River Seine, arrived in the Grand Central Terminal in NYC, landed by private jet at the Santa Monica Airport, and trailed through landmarks on Parisian buses. This year, the Collection, inspired by the culture of travel, was on the move again to the legendary Raleigh Hotel on South Beach for a pool parade of haute couture.

Lagerfeld says the collection is inspired by Miami. "The concept of the Cruise Collection is based on traveling, and Miami is the ideal destination: a city that moves and has energy, with its small districts and its animated streets," comments Karl Lagerfeld in a news release.

The A-list fashion event included Vogue's fashion editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and also celebrities like Anna Kournikova and Rony Seikaly.

"Miami has a style all its own, it's not about New York. It's not about Paris. Miami has a style all its own and that's what Karl loves," said Hal Rubenstein, Editor of 'InStyle Magazine.'

The show ended with a performance by synchronized swimmers from the U.S. Olympic team who finished by forming the House of Chanel logo.

"I love it. I thought it was really fun," Wintour said. "I loved the synchronized swimmers. They were my favorite."

Karl Lagerfeld's Cruise Collection was originally designed for voyagers sailing through oceans in the winter, headed for sunny climates. Since then, the Collection has become a fashion moment all its own, offering a chic, relaxed wardrobe, available in boutiques all over the world starting in the month of November.
