Buckle Up: 'Click It Or Ticket' Campaign Revs Up
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
If you don't already buckle up every single time you get in your vehicle, you better start doing it as police across the state rev up their "Click It Or Ticket" campaign.
It begins May 19th, and will continue through June 1st; police across the state enforcing vehicle seat belt and child restraint laws.
Even with high gasoline prices, many motorists will take advantage of the long Memorial Day weekend to take a trip in the family vehicle. And all too often, when drivers and passengers forget to use seat belts and child safety seats, the results are deadly.
Buckling up is the single-most effective way to prevent highway fatalities, law enforcement officials say.
In Florida, it's against the law for motorists to drive without buckling up. Children, depending on their age and/or weight, must be restrained, either in a child safety seat or by a seat belt. Motorists who pulled over for a traffic violation and are not wearing a seat belt will be ticketed. No warnings; it's 'click it or ticket'.
FHP troopers remain committed to this life saving campaign, knowing first hand that seat belts save lives. FHP enforces seat belt violations every single day and stands firm on the agency's zero tolerance for those who don't buckle up.
Seat belts save an estimated 9,500 lives in America each year, national statistics indicate.
Click It or Ticket is the most successful seat belt enforcement campaign ever, helping create the highest national seat belt usage rate of 82 percent. Coast to coast, day or night, the message is simple -
Click It or Ticket.
