State's Oldest Theme Park To Close On Certain Days

Cypress Gardens Adventure Park Will Be Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays Only During September, & Possibly October.

WINTER HAVEN (CBS4) ― A central Florida tourist attraction is cutting back its hours due to low attendance.

Cypress Gardens Adventure Park is becoming the third attraction in the state to close on certain days of the week when attendance is traditionally low.

The Winter Haven theme park, which became the state's first major commercial attraction in 1936, plans to open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only during September, and possibly October.

Cypress Gardens spokeswoman Haley Kish said Monday that the move was being made "to ensure we will be around."

Cypress Gardens joins Silver Springs in Ocala and Weeki Wachee Springs north of Tampa in closing on various days during slow months when attendance can drop below 200.
