MIAMI (CBS4) ― A South Florida girl is making headlines for being one speedy sprinter. In fact, Daesha Rogers of Miami is the fastest 8-year-old and under runner in the U.S.

Rogers won 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes in an ametur race in Miami Lakes in 2005.

She said that during her first track meet her dad realized she was gifted. "My daddy said I run a good race and I was happy, so I kept on running," Rogers told CBS4's Shomari Stone.

On Dec. 1, 2007, she earned national attention at the AAU Cross Country meet in Virginia Beach. Rogers won the 2000 meter race, in 7 minutes and 52 seconds and the 200 meters dash, running 29 point 36 seconds.

She out ran runners all across the nation, her name was moved to the top of the list.

"Everybody in the country can know you and it feels good when people stop you and say, 'Are you Daesha Rogers?', and I say. Yes," explained Rogers.

Her parentsĀ are very proudĀ of her.

"There is nothing like having a kid that has success in anything she do," said Roger's father Dave. "So that's most important to have a father that be there with her daughter."

Roger's father reminds his daughter that having a good time, is just as important as winning. She said it feels great to win because she gets to play with her friends and have fun.

The amazing girl is training for the AAU Junior Olympics in Detroit and the U.S. Track and Field Junior Olympics in Omaha Nebraska
