BSO Needs Help Identifying Fatal Hit & Run Victim

DEERFIELD BEACH (CBS4) ―

The Broward Sheriff's Office is asking for help from the public to identify the victim of a deadly hit and run. A man was struck near Deerfield Beach on Mother's Day and died two days later. Now police want to find the victim's family and the person responsible for his death.

To help in their search, BSO traffic homicide detectives have released a reconstructed photograph of the man who was struck in the street in the 1000 block of West Sample Road around 3:00 a.m. Sunday May 11th.

The victim was transported to North Broward Medical Center, where he died Tuesday, May 13th.

Detectives say the unidentified man wasn't hit by one vehicle but actually two. The first was a hit and run, the second vehicle, driven by Steven McBreairty, of Coral Springs, remained at the scene.

"He died alone and certainly someone out there knows him, is concerned about him," BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said. "For whatever they haven't come forward and we want to give him identified so that he can have a proper burial."

The victim is described as a Latin male, in his mid to late 40's, about 5'8" tall and approximately 170 to 180 pounds.

From autopsy photos, the BSO Forensic Art Unit was able to reconstruct parts of the victim's face and produce a realistic picture of the victim.

Anyone with information on the identity of the victim or the first vehicle that left the scene is urged to call BSO Traffic Homicide Detective John Grimes at (954) 765-4321 or call Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (954) 493-TIPS or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
