3-Year Old Shot Inside A Deerfield Beach Home
While The Girl Was Inside, The Shots Were Fired From Outside The Home
Broward Crime Stoppers: 954-493-TIPS
DEERFIELD BEACH (CBS4) ―
A 3-year old girl who was shot in the leg faces surgery and time in a body cast after being shot while inside a home in Deerfield Beach Thursday night.
"I'm worried about my baby, I want my grandbaby to be okay," said Salyah Buie's grandmother, Mary Conner.
Friday evening, Salyah is sedated and awaiting surgery to remove bullet fragments from her leg. She was visiting her aunt in Deerfield Beach on Thursday night when the shot pierced the door and hit the toddler.
"Her mom said on the way to the hospital, she was just saying she wanted her daddy and a band-aid. She didn't understand," Conner said.
Her 4-year-old cousin didn't understand either. She was also in the home at the time of the shooting and witnessed the whole thing.
"She's at the hospital now and they're going to bring the therapist in to talk with them because she's just so traumatized from the blood and the shots," her grandmother said.
The shooting left the family wondering who could do this.
"When he pulled the trigger he didn't care where that bullet went. He hit my granddaughter, so if he ain't caught and something done, next time he pulls the trigger, he'll probably kill somebody," Jeff Conner, the girl's grandfather, said.
During the course of their investigation, BSO detectives were led to a possible suspect, who lives in the 4700 block of NE 2 Terrace in Deerfield Beach. That unnamed juvenile was arrested on an unrelated drug possession charge. No one has been charged in the shooting, and no suspects have been named.
