A Hollywood dog owner has been arrested on charges of abusing his 5-month old pit bull puppy.
According to the Hollywood police report, Devon Andrews was cruelly torturing his puppy, named "Scooby-Doo" by repeatedly throwing a football at the dog, which was tied up to a chain link fence with his mouth tied shut with a rope.
Officer Anthony Flores, who responded to the home in the 21-hundred block of Garfield Street on Wednesday afternoon, said he witnessed Andrews yelling at and aggressively throwing a football at the dog, which whimpered and cowered against the fence when Andrews threw the ball.
Andrews told the officer, "The puppy is a baby and I'm just trying to toughen him up," according to the police report.
The dog also had a thin metal chain wrapped tightly around his neck and the chain was tethered to a chain link fence. The dog's neck appeared to have been injured due to the metal chain rubbing against its skin. "Scooby-Doo" was transferred to a veterinarian, as well as a second pit bull named "Nyla", found inside the house.
Neighbors told police they also witnessed Andrews repeatedly beating and shaking the pit bull puppy earlier the same day.
Andrews was taken into custody without incident. He has since bonded out of jail.
