Study: Women Willing To Go To Jail To Drop Pounds

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Losing weight is the number one New Year's resolution but just how desperate are you to lose weight in 2008? For some women, they're willing to go pretty far and just how far may surprise you.

A survey of one-thousand women conducted for Fitness magazine found that 85 percent would live with an extra toe if it meant they could lose weight but that's not all.

The survey, dubbed "Diet Confessions", also found that:

• 23% would spend a week in jail.
• 23% would shave their heads if it would help them reach their ideal weight.
• Nearly 50% would rather lose 20 pounds than live to be 100.
• 51% would rather look like Keira Knightly than Queen Latifah.

Nearly three-quarters of women who responded to the survey have dieted or are dieting now and, most typically, they want to lose 30 pounds or more.

Other results of the survey:

  • 41% diet to look better
  • 25% diet to feel better
  • 35% diet to be healthier
  • 42% of women had used a diet drug or supplement
  • 24% tried a one-day liquids-only diet
  • 25% fasted on the day of a big event

Other dieting tricks used by women in the survey:
  • 67% drank large amounts of water
  • 20% chewed gum

What doesn't work? Cutting out desserts - only 4% of women found that effective.
