Old-Fashioned Doral Trolley Goes High-Tech
GPS Tracking Service Will Go Online By End Of August
DORAL (CBS4) ―
Doral's old-fashioned trolley has gone high-tech with the addition of a GPS tracking device.
The City of Doral launched it's free trolley service in February as part of a pilot public transportation program. It travels about 6 miles throughout Doral and makes 14 stops including all 4 public schools in the city, a shopping plaza and parks.
A GPS tracking device was recently added to the trolley in order to allow riders to check the trolley's progress on the city's website. Riders will be able to click on a map to see the trolley's progress throughout town. The GPS service should be up and running by the end of the August.
The trolley averages about 5,000 riders per month.
The City of Doral paid $175,000 to launch the first trolley and the tracking system doesn't cost a dime because it's been donated by a Doral-based software company called Geosoft USA.
The City of Doral hopes to add another trolley line in the future.
