Women Report Assaults On FAU Campus
BOCA RATON (CBS4) ―
He may or may not be a college student, but Florida Atlantic University authorities are now searching for a man who assaulted two women on its campus.
FAU Police Chief Charles Lowe said two women came forward telling police of man who grabbed them inappropriately.
Lowe also said that when authorities reviewed surveillance footage, they saw the man harass other women, too.
After the first incident on Thursday afternoon, the university sent e-mails and text messages to everyone warning them about the man.
Students like sophomore Brittany Mann remember their first thoughts when they got the message. "I was scared. I know sometimes at night I have to walk by myself to the parking garage, so I was wondering 'could that be me,'" Mann asked.
More than one student explained the man looked familiar. "Even though he may not go here, he may be at Palm Beach Community College or Broward Community College, any community college around here," added student Dave Henningham.
Police have released a sketch of the suspect and a couple of pictures from surveillance video.
He's described as an Hispanic male with short brown hair and wearing a black shirt with white pin stripes and blue jeans. He's between 23-26 years old, 5' 8" tall and weighs between 175-200 pounds. He might drive a black Toyota Corolla.
The university pledged to not let this kind of crime happen again. "We take it as a big concern. We don't know what his intentions were. They were unwanted and unsolicited and we need to put a stop to this," FAU assistant police department director Gary Palmer said.
