Power Outage Disrupts Office, Eateries, Life

MIAMI (CBS4) ―

Lights returned late Tuesday afternoon at Garcia's Seafood Grille and Fish Market on the Miami River. After thirty minutes in the dark, there was eventual applause and relief when power was restored. But others who were stuck in office buildings were not as fortunate.

The restaurant managed to stay open thanks to a gas grill and fryer, and an outside patio that doesn't require lights nor air conditioning.

"I hope everyone got their power back," said Luis Garcia outside his establishment. "You always think the worst."

Even after much of downtown Miami was back on line, there were some street lights not working. Office building workers were let out early and rush-hour picked up.

At the 55-story Wachovia Tower, a group of employees took a much needed break before going home. They had just walked down, some as many as 44 flights of stairs after building management told them to evacuate because of the blackout.
