FPL Tackles Virtual Hurricanes In Storm Simulation

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Florida Power & Light is getting ready for hurricane season with some hands on experience. National recognized for its post-storm restoration expertise, FPL takes planning and preparing for hurricane season extremely seriously.

Thursday morning, FPL's emergency operation kicked off its annual company-wide storm simulation exercise or "dry run" to test their storm operations and technology for the hurricane season.

The event, which takes place at the FPL Storm Command Center, simulates system response, including new technology, for two back-to-back virtual storms: Hurricane Alpha, which will make landfall in FPLs service territory and Hurricane Bravo, which will land west of FPL territory but challenge restoration resources for Alpha.

The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1st and continues through November 30th.

The Colorado State University outlook for the 2009 Atlantic Hurricane season calls for 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes.
