"Hurricane Beta" Set To Strike South Florida

Hurricane Beta Is FPL's Simulated Storm

It's A Disaster Drill To Test FPL's Storm Readiness

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Hurricane season starts in less than a month and that means Florida Power and Light took part in its annual hurricane disaster drill Thursday in order to make sure it's prepared for the worst, while hoping for the best.

The FPL annual storm dry run exercise, dubbed "Hurricane Beta", enables employees to test their storm readiness before the start of the 2008 hurricane season.

The simulated "Hurricane Beta" exercise is run out of FPL's Storm Command Center in Miami. The drill allows FPL to test its storm systems and train employees in their storm assignments. The goal is to be better prepared if a storm hits.
