A new art exhibit that takes regular South Florida people and hangs them 20 feet in the air is now on display. It doesn't really hang them in the air, instead it hangs their picture in the air on a banner. It's a special preview to celebrate Art Basel.
"It's fabulous; look at that way over there," said Sandra Stefani, to
CBS4's Jorge Estevez as both stood in front of a lamppost on Biscayne Blvd. It bared her picture on it. "I don't walk Biscayne; I fly Biscayne; look at that I am on a flag," said Stefani.
It's quite an accomplishment for this 50 year old breast cancer survivor who is one of the 160 faces on display above Biscayne Boulevard for Miami's Exposé, a project that places people's faces on top a historic strip.
"Breast cancer is what I believe makes people move in the right direction and not procrastinate anymore," said Stefani.
Stefani opened Casa Toscana on the boulevard, a block from where her face adorns a lamppost. Artist Louis Dalmau, who lives in the Mimo District, wanted to put the people's mark on a growing area.
"I thought of what is better than Miami's people," said Dalmau.
Dalmau shot hundreds of local faces with hundreds of stories, South Florida stories now on display in time for Art Basel.
"Just to see the facial expression of people jumping up and saying, 'it's me,' that was thrilling," said Dalmau.
The breast cancer survivor is one of those faces that now has a new reason to smile. "I survive the big one I can survive anything," said Stefani.
If you want to catch the full exhibit which is more than 2000 faces on Biscayne Boulevard, you have to wait until next year's Art Basel.
