Ft. Lauderdale Apt. Building Evacuated After Fire

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― A fire broke out in the 16th floor of the Tides apartment building in Ft. Lauderdale Monday night.

The fire started in the 16th floor penthouse of the building located at 3020 NE 32nd Avenue, activating the sprinkler system. There was extensive smoke and water damage on that floor as well as the 14th and 15th floors. The Ft. Lauderdale Fire Department is investigating the cause of the two-alarm fire.

One firefighter was injured because of a muscle injury.

Fire officials evacuated the building but only residents living below the 14th floor are being allowed back in. There is too much water damage in the affected floors and officials fear there is too much of an electrical hazard for residents in those floors to return.
