Flagler Flea Market Venders Told They Must Leave

MIAMI (CBS4) ― The Flagler Flea Market on the grounds of the Flagler Dog Track has been a staple of the South Florida community for years, and now vendors are being told by the market owner to walk, at least for now.

Vendors are being told to move to make way for construction for the Vegas-style slots. The same slots they were told to vote "Yes" on last year in order to keep their jobs. The vendors recently received a letter from the owner of the flea market, telling them that they would have to be out at the end of May.

Monday morning, frustrated vendors from the flea market waited for answers from management.

"This is not fair, he's a traitor! He's very nasty and not fair, cause we have been working here for many, many years." said vendor Nancy Gonzalez, "Everybody voted because he said, 'I'm going to help you,' now he's a liar."

Management addressed upset vendors, saying that the closing was only temporary for construction, and the flea market would eventually be back. The Chief Operating Officer of The Flagler Flea market said, "It won't be the way it was back there, it will be reopen in a different fashion, it might reopen in the back, we're not sure yet. We're studying all the options we have to try and bring back the vendors."

But vendors aren't buying another promise, and let management know, waving a t-shirt from last year in support of slots as a reminder of the past.

After going back and fourth with frustrated vendors, management was escorted by security as they walked away to a round of boos from the vendors who feel betrayed.

Management hasn't given a date on when the vendors will be allowed to return.
